Kemi's Garden

When it comes to gardening I think there is only one way to go, start slowly and plant, plant, plant! There is a misconception that one day you will become the ‘perfect gardener’. Here is the good news, there is no such thing. Things will die, sometimes you will know why, sometimes you won’t. Sometimes you will get a harvest, sometimes you won’t. But you will always be nourished, wonder filled and peaceful in your own little patch of garden. Plant, plant, plant!

This is a small, simple seasonal guide for a temperate climate.

Spring

Asparagus, artichoke, beans, carrots, beetroot, salad leaves, kale, silverbeet/swiss chard, parsnip, citrus trees.

Summer

Carrots, tomatoes, radish, sweetcorn, pumpkin, zuchinni, cucumber, basil, capsicums, chilli.

Autumn

Asian greens, peas, chicory, peas, silverbeet/swiss chard, kale, salad leaves, celery.

Winter

Broad beans, onions, salad leaves, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, kale, deciduous fruit trees.

I recommend finding a high quality nursery as they will only stock what is in season for your area, that way you start off on the right foot. Happy gardening!
